Developing Data as a National Resource

The development of the National Data Infrastructure (NDI) began over a decade ago when the CSO presented its proposal for delivering joined-up data for a joined-up government. The first task was to collaborate with colleagues across the system to develop National Data Identifiers – Eircode, Personal Public Service Number (PPSN), and the Unique Business Identifier (UBI). These identifiers laid the foundations for the modernisation of the Irish Statistical System.

Building on the successful foundations already in place, the pillars of the NDI have been established:

  • Standards
  • Skills
  • Services

Each pillar supports a set of frameworks necessary for the successful implementation of the infrastructure.
